The beginnings of the spanish legend in soccer were in the team San Cristobal de Los Angeles of Madrid until he was signed by Atletico Madrid at the age of thirteen. He debuted with the Atletico U14 team and scored 65 goals playing inside left. In the following season, very similar results were obtained, but near the end of the season, Atletico de Madrid eliminated the lower divisions of the club. So, he joined Real Madrid, the club where he has spent most of his professional life.

He spent a year in the cadet team and after that he went through all Real Madrid youth cathegories really quick. Jorge Valdano gave him the opportunity to debut on October 29 1994 against Zaragoza in the spanish soccer league La Liga. He had just seventeen years old, the youngest player to wear the shirt in the history of Los Blancos. This season was very complete for Raul as Real Madrid won the league title and he made nine goals.

One of the best seasons for the player was to 1996-1997: Real Madrid won a new League (he scored 21 goals) and debuted with the Spanish national team on October 9, 1996 in Prague against the Czech Republic (0 -0). Although it took quite reach the selection: he had his first experience with the U-18 team, he continued his career in the sub-20 and sub-21. He traveled to Qatar to play the World Youth Cup, achieving fourth place for Spain. Although Javier Clemente, Spanish coach at the time, decided not to summon him to play in the Euro 1996 absolute as it saw fit reserved for the Olympic Games in Atlanta. In the seasons 1999-2000 and 2001-2002, with Del Bosque leading the project of Los Blancos he won another two UEFA Champions League in Paris and Glasgow. On June 15, 2000 day, he renewed his contract with Real Madrid until 2005. During those years, he was part of the spanish historic team knew as Los Galacticos.
