Fran Escribá team lost 1-0 against Monaco and say bye to be part of the UEFA Champions League 2016-2017
Bad news for the Spanish soccer. Villarreal, the last spanish team that had the option to play the top European competition this year has failed. Spanish supporters expected Villarreal joined F.C. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico de Madrid and Sevilla FC as the fifth team in the tournament. However, it is not going to happen.
The castellonenses needed a victory over Monaco (at least 2-0) to go through next round after the lose in the Madrigal 1-2, but a goal of Fabinho at the end minutes of the match killed definitively the spanish hopes.
Santos Borré had not his best day. The striker missed an excellent opportunity to score the first goal of the game in the minute 45th and a couple more during the second half.
Villarreal coach, Fran Escribá, commented that sadly they missed six important players of the squad because of the injuries and this situation made the team weaker than it really is. However, he feels that the players did what was in their hand and there is nothing to reproach. Now, the Yellow Submarine is thinking in do a great UEFA Europa League this season.
